Breast discharge – causes

Discharge from the nipple is usually divided into bloody, colostrum-like, serous and purulent. In most cases, spontaneous discharge from the nipples due to benign diseases.

Galactorrhea is manifested by colostrum-like secretions from both nipples consisting of fat droplets; this condition is usually idiopathic, but may occur after discontinuation of oral contraceptives or in the form of preservation of discharge after pregnancy.

The level of prolactin in the plasma should be determined, since such a condition may accompany the pituitary prolactin.

Spotting is usually caused by solitary papilloma; green thick discharge characteristic of the ectasia of the milky ducts.
